I managed to get my 600 to run SS - sort of.. Here is what is required: ShapeShifter 3.5 or 3.6 The Apollo A620 Accelerator - 25Mhz 68EC020/882 8MB of Fast Ram, in a single SIMM. util/boot/addmem301.lha (also on AmiNetCDROM #4) Install SS in the normal manner, then install addmem301. Here are the first few lines of the Startup-sequence, to show the usage: --------------------------xxxxxxxxx-------------------- ;$VER: Startup-Sequence_HardDrive 40.2 (25.2.93) ; Startup-Sequence for hard drive systems ; A600Tower SetPatch QUIET C:Version >NIL: C:AddBuffers >NIL: DF0: 15 FailAt 21 C:MakeDir RAM:T RAM:Clipboards RAM:ENV RAM:ENV/Sys C:Copy >NIL: ENVARC: RAM:ENV ALL NOREQ Assign >NIL: ENV: RAM:ENV Assign >NIL: T: RAM:T Assign >NIL: CLIPS: RAM:Clipboards Assign >NIL: REXX: SYS:REXX S: ADD Assign >NIL: PRINTERS: DEVS:Printers Assign >NIL: KEYMAPS: DEVS:Keymaps Assign >NIL: LOCALE: SYS:Locale Assign >NIL: LIBS: SYS:Classes SYS:Libs2 ADD Assign >NIL: HELP: LOCALE:Help DEFER Resident >NIL: C:Assign PURE Resident >NIL: C:Execute PURE dh0:cc/prepareemul a1200 dh0:cc/addmem <>nil: start $200000 end $a00000 BindDrivers C:Mount >NIL: DEVS:DOSDrivers/~(#?.info) --------------------------xxxxxxxxx-------------------- Settings: --------- I use a two color desktop, with refresh rate 1. The system runs quickly. Filedisks and device disks work normally. My SS Boot partition is on a SCSI drive. My ZIP drive and Dell HD floppy are completely useable from SS. So far, I have not been able to access my CDROM. I'm working on it. Notes: ------ Addmem requires ENV: to be established before it can be invoked. Use the latest version of PrepareEmul. PrepareEmul needs the a1200 switch. My system has 3.1 on ROM. Softkicking may be require a different procedure. My 600 has 2MB of CHIP memory. SYS7.0.1 works. I have not tried 7.5.3. After I first got SS running, I had some occasional crashes on shut down. I didn't think too much about this because SS on my 1200 does the same thing. ShapeShifter would crash and unvalidate the partition SS lives in. I think the PRAM file was being screwing up. I got around the unvalitating problem by changing the protection bits on the PRAM file to "R"ead only. After using SS on the 600 for a few weeks, the situation has deteriorated to the point where SS crashes on shut down every time. I do not know what causes this. I hoped the upgrade to 3.6 would cure the problem, but it did not. All the software I have tried works. This includes MS's Flight Simulator. Because the A620 is limited to 8MB of RAM, large programs are impractical. If you have any comments, email me at: colin@znet.com
